Parents Area : Introduction

Parents

At Elloughton School we value the support of our parents. Parents are vitally important in their children's education. We endeavour to communicate freely with our parents and adopt an "Open Door" policy. We send out a Newsletter almost every week, copies of our Newsletter can be found on this website. We encourage our parents to talk to us and tell us any concerns that they might have. Parents can arrange an appointment with their child's class teacher or the headteacher through the school office. Teachers are often seen on the school playground at the end of the school day and this provides opportunities for informal discussions or just the chance to pass on information, we like to tell parents about how well their children are doing. We have more formal arrangements for informing parents about their children's progress through our reporting procedures.

Reporting to Parents

We offer three official Parent/Teacher meetings each year.  In the Autumn Term we hold an evening where parents make an appointment to come to school to meet their child's class teacher and find out how their child is settling into their new class. A first term preliminary report is issued and this is discussed with the parents.  The parents then take a copy of the report home. The other copy is filed in the I.P.R.F. [ Individual Pupil Record File.]

The child's Individual Pupil Record File [I.P.R.F.] is available for the parents to look through. This will contain samples of work.

In the Spring Term we hold Parent/Teacher interviews where appointments are made for parents to meet their child's class teacher in order to discuss progress. Mid year reports are available which will include comments on a range of subjects. The pupil record file will include more samples of work and will be available for parents to look through. This is meant to be the most important parent/teacher interview. Targets for the rest of the year will be set at this meeting.

In the Summer Term the final reports are written which are sent out to parents with copies of previous term's reports. Parents are invited to make an appointment with their child's class teacher should they so wish. The final report will contain a summary of the child's year at school.

Discipline

Children are encouraged to develop an awareness of self-discipline within the framework of teacher care. We adopt a positive approach to discipline and try to "catch children being good." We aim to highlight examples of positive behaviour so that children can learn form each other. Our Reward System ( for more information see examples on this website )  is based around the principle of rewarding positive role models. By setting children good examples of behaviour we expect others to follow suit.

However, If there is evidence of continuing inappropriate behaviour parents are informed with a view to arranging a discussion in order to work together to resolve the difficulty. Should you have any reason to question your child's behaviour please contact us. Many unexpected events can cause a child distress which can subsequently affect behaviour. Please contact us if anything has changed which might affect your child's behaviour.

Pastoral Care

This is given by all teaching and non-teaching staff, for we all have the best interests of the children at heart.
