Parents Area : Homework

Reading

Children throughout the school are encouraged to take their reading books home to read with parents. There is a Home-School Reading system which encourages parents to take an active role in their child's reading development. Reading books are taken home and parents are asked to record their comments about their child's reading in the Home Reading Record. A handbook, Reading at Home, a guide for parents, is given to all new parents. If you require a new copy please let us know.

Other forms of Homework include; finding information about topics being studied, finishing off work at home, either voluntarily or because of under performance in class or learning facts e.g. table facts or spellings.

Spelling cards are sent home in appropriate cases for children to learn individual spellings at home.

Years 5 and 6

In Years 5 and 6 we begin to issue Homework on an increasingly regular basis. This initially takes the form of extra tasks but as the year moves on more Homework is set, particularly in the run up to the Year 6 tests which are usually held in May. We have found the homework helps prepare the children for the rigours of the tests and enables them to cope with the Homework set at secondary school more easily.

The school Homework policy was originally sent out to parents but if anybody requires a new copy please let us know.

Homework Club, for children in Years 5 and 6, is open one evening after school.
