We thought you might be interested to know what your children will be studying this term in addition to their daily sessions of literacy and numeracy, P.E. and games
Reception and Year 1 - Our local environment
Reception and Year 1 will be focussing on the science elements of pushing and pulling for the first half term. They will be investigating how pushing and pulling makes things work and move.
In the second half of the term they will be looking at "our School and the local area." They will be thinking about things we like and dislike around the school and in the nearby area.
Year 2 - Our local area.
Year 2 will be learning about transport and our local area. They will compare transport today to transport in the Victorian times. During the term they will study the following:
- Pushes and pulls, movement and forces;
- Vehicle uses, mechanisms;
- Mapping skills;
- Safety within the community and surveying amenities locally;
- Places of worship;
- Use of I.C.T. to represent information graphically.
Year 3 and 4 - The Romans
The children in year 3 and 4 will be studying the Romans this term. This will include:
- Why people settle in certain places;
- Where Romans invaded and settled;
- The differences between Celtic and Roman life-styles;
- Boudicca;
- Writing Roman, diaries, letters and stories.
They will also look at Holy Books and journeys, investigating springs, magnets and forces, understanding how drugs should be handled and who they can trust.
Year 5 and 6 - Life on Earth
Years 5 and 6 will be studying Life on Earth. This will include:
- Writing an explanation of how plants grow;
- Looking at the different conditions for the growth of plants;
- Dissecting and drawing flowers;
- Classifying animals into groups;
- Writing a letter of protest about a controversial incident;
- Planning a healthy meal;
- Learning about personal hygiene;
- Preparing and cooking food;
- Developing knowledge about growing up;
- Participating in games and athletics;
- Year 6 will undertake Basic First Aid Training.
