- An interest is expressed through initial contact with the school regarding the possibility of enrolling a child at Elloughton School;

- The New Parents' Handbook is sent or given to the potential new parent[s], with a school admission form;

- The new parent[s] return the admission form expressing a wish to enrol their child, this usually follows a visit to the school arranged through the school office;

- The completed admission form is retained at the school until the December before the year in which the child is due to start school;

- Children at Elloughton School start school at the beginning of the school year in which they reach the age of 5.

- Coloured school preference admission forms and admission booklets from the East Riding Council are sent out to every parent [ by the school ]who has submitted an Elloughton School Admission Form.

- The East Riding will also contact parents explaining about admissions on-line.

- Parents can choose to send the coloured preference form to the school of their choice or complete the admission on-line.

- We at Elloughton School count up the returned preference forms and also receive regular updates from the admissions team regarding on-line admissions requests.

- If the total of forms and on-line admissions are less than or equal to the school admission number everyone is allocated a place. If the number is greater the East Riding admission teams will allocate places.

- Parents have a right to appeal if they are not granted a place at their first choice school.

For parents wishing to move their child from another school to Elloughton it is best to contact the school in order to discuss the availability of places directly with the headteacher.

Preparation for Education:

1. Encourage your child to express him/herself clearly;

2. Be polite to others;

3. Be able to play and share with others;

4. To have had practice using pencils, crayons, scissors, paint etc.

5. To listen patiently to your child and be willing to answer questions. Lively conversation, reading stories, talking to your child about pictures, teaching nursery rhymes all helps to stimulate your child;

6. It is important that parents talk to the child's teacher regarding such things as letter formation and number formation, the Home Visit will help this.

HOME VISITS ARE ARRANGED TO THE HOMES OF ALL NEW STARTERS.
